Over the past year some have complained about the size of the hunting area on the maps that we hunt.  Some would rather small, some medium and some large would rather large maps.  Here is your chance to let your opinion count and hopefully to make your hunts more enjoyable.

Being that 75% of the poll was for 300 and larger, we are staying with the original change that was indicated.

Most of the hunts will be 300 gap or larger maps, with occasional smaller maps at the discretion of the Admins.

I think that this vote is not real -  it can not be 1650 people, registered in the site, to decided the map size, if the last games we played only 6-10 people in dh2005.  I think that these 1650 people must play at least 1 hour a day and send their results in the end of the week, to have a rights to vote. I suggest the players  participated in the hunt the last 20-30 weeks to have a rights to vote. Let the vote is open in forum, and each of players  to explain why he decided for that.  About the new players and these, who scared to send the results - don`t be afraid, play and participate in this wonderful game. Good luck for all

I think that the maps must be small, because for all of us, there is not enough of time and we now that he big maps demand more time. I think that 1-2 hours a day in the game must be enough for good results at the end of the week. In the big maps I must to enter many times for a few minutes.

I think you're right one shot. And i think all notice that 2 months ago we was more than 10 people hunting 05, now we are only 6-7. The map size doesn't count so much, only supe large maps with 300 or more gap are boring, i think that hunt are too complicated if we hunt in large maps. Grin

I cant agree with you on haveing smaller maps to hunt on.
Even though its more time consuming, its a bigger challenge to hunt on a bigger map.
The winner of the weekly hunts dont have to get a 260+ Mule buck every time its Muledeer as a objective.
Even if a 229 non-typ wins one of the weekly hunts its fine by me.
This is  just a game and it should be fun to play it and its great when you get monster deers every week.
But i think its more fun if i get a 230+ Whitetail on a map with a worldgap between 1-300 then a 400 wg map.
And about the poll. I dont think that many members beside us in the weekly hunts voted.

Ok Timberwolf. But you say "this is just a game and it should to be fun". To be fun a game mustn't be boring and complicated. A funny game must be "easy" not in difficulty, it must be easy to bag trophies, like for real. And for people who works 10 hours a day, they can't play 4 hours a day. This is only what I think...  Smiley Smiley Smiley

I cannot agree with that. To load in the center of a small map where you can see the boundaries on all sides, and just load, and load, and load for a week is the most boring thing I can think of. Even if you do take large trophies, it's nothing like real hunting. I've always advocated hunts where you have to move, and stalk, and exercise some skill with different weapons. Most can't even use a bow except a crossbow with a scope. Be willing to learn something new and accept new challenges.
Hunt with something the bullet cam doesn't work with and learn to track if you don't make a clean kill. That's what real hunting is like.
Just my opinion......

As for the poll, the people who voted ARE the people who hunt the tournaments. The other 1620 could care less.

There is a simple solution to just about everything if one takes the time to sit back, think and do the research of what it is.  I have just spent the last three weeks, of my spare time, testing many maps and figured out it is NOT the size of the map, it is the sight distance the maker uses in making them.  This following table should be of help for map makers to make what I call Quality Tournament maps.  Look it over (if you are a map maker) and let me know if you agree or disagree because we are not going to fight over what we use for maps here at the site for tournaments.  If you make a map with the max view of only 260 yards in most locations then gap it small, if you make one and can see over 500 yards then gap it large. If you want your maps used in the tournaments here, then go by the following table as that is what I will be using for the weekly tournaments, as long as I am dh2005 Administrator.  A small map can be just as hard of a challenge as a large map, it's all in the sight distance, as the stock maps have proven.
Size and sight distance for making quality tournament maps.

World Gap:          Max View:
Small 400 to 500 (1.0-1.47)
Medium 300 to 400 (1.56-2.02)
Large 200 to 300 (2.11-2.57)
Extra Large 100 to 200 (2.66-3.00)

Sight Distance conversion table
yards: Max View setting:
 218 = 1.00      Stock maps are:
 240 = 1.11                     Gap- Max View-Setting
 260 = 1.20      Australia = 380 -  218  -  1.00
 280 = 1.29      Black Forest = 380 -  218  -  1.00
 300 = 1.38      Georgia = 420 -  218  -  1.00
 320 = 1.47      Illinois = 380 -  218  -  1.00
 340 = 1.56      Oregon = 380 -  218  -  1.00
 360 = 1.65
 380 = 1.75
 400 = 1.84
 420 = 1.93
 440 = 2.02
 460 = 2.11
 480 = 2.20
 500 = 2.29
 520 = 2.39
 540 = 2.48
 560 = 2.57
 580 = 2.66
 600 = 2.75
 620 = 2.84
 640 = 2.94
 650 = 3.00
