If you're talking about the map editor, just download it to your desktop, extract it there, then double click on the self installer.
Follow the instructions and have it place a shortcut on your desktop. The editor folder will be in c:\program files\Atari\DH2005

Just do as Mossy said...Google on winrar or winzip.
Or go to www.win-rar.com. Download the free version of winrar.
Then just right click on the map you have downloaded and then choose "Extract here".
Then the .spk file will appear. The mapfile icon got to have a red circle with a white triangle in it to work.

I got to ask: where did you download those maps from and how did you "put them in custommaps"? 

What system are you on - XP?  Vista?

Try double-clicking on the zip-file.

When the program opens choose the
c:\Program files\Atari\Deer Hunter 2005\game\CustomLevels
folder for your extract location.

You need a compression application like winzip, winrar, etc. If you don't have one, do a google search for free winzip or free winrar. Download the app. to your PC and install it.

When you go back to your custom levels folder, right click on the zip file you want. Select "extract here". Your file will extract and you will see a new file with the same name.spk.

Restart DH05 and the map will be there.  Have fun.

Did you unzip the files? After unzipping, they will be .spk files.
