Lucky, when I was younger I never even knew of it as an enfield.  I always called it a 303 british. Laughing  When my dad was in his 20's which is some 40 + years ago, he lived in philly and you used to be able to go into New Jersey and buy guns, legally, all the time.  I think he paid less then $20 bucks for it.  I loved the sites for windage that were on it. It is a totally different league then the one above but one day I am going to get that gun from my father and bring it back to it's original state of being.

YOU CAN GET A SHORTER BARRELED GUN TO SHOOT LONG DISTANCE ACCUREYLY IF YOU SELECT A HIGHER RATE OF TWIST IN THE RIFLING AND SELECT A LIGHTER BULLET. AS LONG AS YOU GET THE BULLET SPINNING AS FAST, THE SHORTER BARREL WILL REACH OUT AS FAR AS THE LONGER ONE. YOU JUST HAVE TO PLAY AROUND WITH DIFFERENT BULLETS AND LOADS. BUT YES, EVERYTHING BEING EQUAL, THE LONGER BARREL WILL SHOOT MORE ACCURETLY AT LONG RANGE. IT'S LIKE THROWING A FOOTBALL, THE BETTER THE SPIRAL THE FARTHER AND MORE ACCURET WILL BE THE THROW.

I personally don't feel  an 30-06 kicks that hard. I shot a 7mm mag already that woke me up quick. My 270 (which is a 30-06 case necked down to 27 caliber) kicks harder than a 06, IMO. Smile

ever shoot the ultra mag 7mm?

I've watched my dad shoot his 7mm UM. He's one big dude but it still gives him a ride.

THAT'S CALLED A RECOIL PAD AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIT. I CAN'T RECOMMEND STRONGLY ENUFF, FIND A COMPETANT GUNSMITH NOT THE GUY BEHIND THE COUNTER AT GANDER MTN, AND HAVE HIM MEASURE FOR YOUR CORRECT LENGTH OF PULL AND PURCHASE A RECOIL PAD AND MAYBE A SPACER THAT WILL GIVE YOU THIS DIMENSION. WHILE THE GUNSMITH HAS YOUR GUN TO ATTACH THE NEW RECOIL PAD, HAVE HIM HONE YOUR TRIGGER ASS'Y PIECES AND SET YOUR TRIGGER PULL AT 4 LBS. JUST DO IT, YOU CAN THANK ME LATER.
