How to create terrain using paint program.

The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how to create a bitmap to create your terrain.

First open your paint program. I am using paint shop pro.

First set your attributes. Set the width and height to 640 * 640. Change the color scale to grey scale.

You will only be able to use different shades of grey, black, white to create this. Any white on the map
will be the highest point and the darkest black will be the lowest.
I usually start off by painting the whole image a dark shade of grey.

Now lets start painting. I will create this simple image to show the effects in the editor. The
more experienced you are with paint programs the more you can change on the bitmap.

Now you need to change save your new design before you can use it in the editor. I usually save my
bitmaps to the sample level folder. the file type will need to be png.

Now open up your editor and create your new level data. Click on the terrain surface edit button and scroll down
to fractal and change to bitmap.

Now scroll down furter and click on the "..." button. Find the folder you saved you png in and select it.
You will now see this.

Now click the apply button and it will create your terrain. Notice how the map is now in the left hand corner.
this means that you created the terrain. use the filter button to smooth out.
Now you have your own map with the terrain the way you want it.

The editor has a campatabilty problem resolutions (dpi) other than 96 dpi.
If you are unable to get a bitmap to load, check the dpi setting on the image size settings.
