I'm new to the forums and I want to say thanks for all the good mapping info! I'm new to Deer Hunter 2005 as well, but I've mapped for other games in my past and this game has recently hooked me. I've been learning my way around the editor the past few days and after searching through the forums here, I've seen a few posts about replicating hunting land. I've decided I would like to do the same to sort of immortalize the area that we used to hunt in. We hunted the same land for over 60 years, but no longer have family near where we hunted.
My question is, in real life figures (miles or yards), approximately how big are standard size maps in Deer Hunter 2005? I plan on importing a bmp and I'm trying to figure out how far I want to expand out of the area we used to hunt, but can't seem to get a grasp on how big of a square area I need. Thanks in advance for any input or advice, it's greatly appreciated!

When you open your editor and click new you will get a dialogue box where you enter your map name , world height etcetera.
Just above the create button is an information that reads,
The current size is 2560m per side.
You can adjust the size by opening the terrain file with notepad and increasing the pixel size and at the max it will be 5000m per size .. but you will still omly get the same number of deer per map and that makes them hard to sell because the deer are too few and far between.
Get a good topo map of your area and size it to 2560m then make a grayscale PNG from it and reduce it to 640x640 pixels to place in the terrain generator as a Hifield map.and have also a google map of the area to see where to place the vegetation on the map..
If you need more details on how to get the hifield into the terrain generator, get back to me.
Old Hunters never die. They just sit around the campfire and tell the biggest lies.

Thank you for your response! I was able to get a better idea of how large of an area I need for a full map.
I've been searching for a good topo map for few days and can't seem to find one that's detailed enough. All of the topos I can find show the land to be completely flat even though I know that it's not. We used to have stands on 3 of the main ridges that come through the area and a few in the swampier parts. However, I would imagine that overall, the elevation probably only changes ~10ft max from the lowest to highest locations.
After playing for several hours in the editor, I think my best bet may be to just create a png image from scratch in photoshop and use my correctly sized google earth image as an overlay/guide to adjust the height. What I really need and am struggling to find, is a decent model of large steel power lines. So if you know anyone good with making objects, or have anything similar to these images, I would be very interested to hear about it!
Most of the lines that run through the property look like this:

Something along these lines will definitely be needed to complete my map, but it's not a huge hurry at this point. I'm still learning the editor and have plenty of other stuff to figure out before I can even think about placing them in.
The editor is very different that the old gtkradiant that I'm used to!
