I noticed a pattern in the scores on this past week's map. (Excellent map, BTW, thanks Dan!)

Out of 17 entries, the top 11 were (with a couple of exceptions) within a few yards of exactly 500
The bottom 6 were hovering right around 400 yards max.

I have made no changes to my settings, all on Ultra.  On last week's Coogan's Bluff map, I was unable to see over 400 yards. Yet in the new Kansas weekly map, I am scoping 655 yards clearly.

Is there something I am missing?  From the line of difference in the scores, it seems that there may be a setting some of us are missing in order to see further than 400 yards on some maps.

Any suggestions?

We all see the same dist. The Map maker decides how big and how far we see!!!

View distances will always vary from map to map because it is a setting that the mapmaker uses to give the best frame rates on any particular map.On last weeks map 500yrds was only avaliable in the rut season.. pre rut and post rut were limited to 400 yrds.
Not everyone would have figured it out.

Generally the further you can see the lower the frame rate will be. In order to get high frame rates with long veiw distances the
mapmaker will have to balance the detail. Objects.. grasses etc all take up frame speeds and Dynamic objects will have to be set at shorter distance.
When the maps are finished everyone who hunts on them will see the same distance within 2 or three yards depending on how big a computer and the type of video card they have.

As far as last weeks scores.. not everyone can shoot to 500 yards ..Only possible with th 207 amm0 and all other rifles only shoot to 400yrds.The 207 is a difficult ammo to use.. you will need to shoot the animal several times at 500 yrds to kill it.
It can take an hour or more to set up the shot on one animal at 500 yrds, shoot it and then find it again and set it up again 3 or 4 times in a row.. and some of our hunters dont bother.

This weeks map is set to Max View distance and has high frame rates but still a lot of detail.

An excellent example of Mapmaking skill. Wish I had made it.

Here's an example of how many shots it takes.  There's still 2 on his backside, and 2 on the
other side you can't see if I remember correctly so like 8-10 shots in this deer.
