Happens........try Stalking your way to the stand. That way if a Bruiser is around you will probably see him before you get there, and always check the wind. Good Luck!

RutMaster is correct. Always hunt with the wind in your face or crosswind and be very, very quiet just like you were hunting WABBITS Razz  Razz

well the problem is im in some thick brush so theres no real way to be stealthy.  i try to move in spurts and pauses(like the squirrels)  what happened was my buddy spooked him while he was getting in his stand and he happened to run right by me.  thank you for the advise.  im buyin a .30_06 friday and im gonna have to skimp on the scope a bit(budget)  any suggestions on a decent scope for around 80-100 bucks??

There are decent affordable scopes out there, I use BSA scopes on a couple rifles I have, there not fancy but they do the job and are inexpensive...$50-$100 I believe. I also have a couple $200 scopes that I use for hunting out west on the plains.....when I'm lucky enough to go! By the way when u get your scope I would shoot your buddy for spooking that Buck..lol! Good Luck!

did you have any problems with losing the zero on a bsa?  i cant really shoot him seeing as im hunting on his land(the thought may or may not have crossed my mind;)).  yesterday i got to my stand at about noon and didnt get out until dark and nothin moved except a HUGE flock of turkeys that walked directly underneath me...  deer season sucks so far this year...(ive been goin out whenever i can for the last month and a half and havent even had the opportunity to shoot at one)

Had that happen one time due to my negligence. I've got 2 Turkeys this year so far (Bow Season) and haven't put down a Deer yet, not seeing them. Hunted everyday since Bow Season came in Oct. and not 1 shooter. There were deer, just no shooters. I can fill the freezer in Rifle season so no worries. Not sure what part of the world your in but here in West Va and Va the weather has been terrible..windy, hot, etc. Oh well, just need to go deeper in the forest, i'll find them!! Good Luck to ya!
