Hey all. I have returned from a long break and got in the mood to create another map.  I am trying to utilize fence rows with fence.  I am having trouble getting the fence line to be straight.  I use duplicate object and still cant seem to get it quite straight.  Any help or advice on how and what the best way to create straight fence lines would be great.  Thank you

Not sure if you got this figured this out yet or not, but one of the most helpful things I've found is utilizing the SHIFT key to slowly rotate around objects to line them up. Hold SHIFT to slow the camera movement while flying around or CTRL to fly fast.

What also helps is making sure all your fences run either East/West or North/South. If they are, what you can do is use the P/Y/R coordinates in the "Selected Object Instances" to get them running as straight as possible. So, for example, you should see either 90/180/270/360 in one of the P/Y/R coordinates. You should be able to tell which one is correct by rotating your object and watching what happens to those values.

It's pretty easy to line them up if your on flat ground, I've run into a similar problem right now that I'm struggling with. I've re-created a hunting area and the topography varies, so the elevation is a lot higher on one end of the map than the other. I need to put powerlines across the map and I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to either dig a big ditch along the county road or a hill so that the powerlines run on even ground. Maybe Danthemanboone or someone else has some pointers with this? Rolling Eyes

Power lines and fences are a problem on uneven ground no matter what you do.
The longer the model spans the more trouble they become.
The best advice I can add to the doctors comments, is to keep the changes in gradient as small as possible, and run over the fence line with the terain brush on smooth, set fairly big and the strength very low. Then place the fence with 'align to ground' set, and finally select the fence model and hit the 'put on the ground' button several times. then finally go thru and tweak the rest by hand.
The best fence to use on uneven ground is the Georgia barbed wire fence. But it cant be passed thru... unless you take out some standard ones and put in some of the broken fence models or open gates, to allow access.

I always use 90 degree increments and north to south & East to west. Put the Y position to the degree it is closest, 90,180,270,360 or 0. it will line up like a charm.   good luck.........   GAS56
