Is anyone else having this problem?

While hunting this weeks Tourney Map (Logging Camp 34) the game unexpectedly closes at random times. The message I get goes something like this "dh2005 has stopped working".  It's really getting annoying, I had a 206RB buck in my sights the last time it happened.  Evil or Very Mad

I tried adjusting my game settings from "HIGH" to "MEDIUM" but it still happens.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this from happening?

any special spot on the map that it is crashing? or just randomly? I know I have a low end e machine and have trouble running some graphically intense maps. Are you running stand alone or on a server?

Same problem Jim but I cannot tell you why, I run ultra on all your maps and stand alone, but this one randomly stops the program
the only thing I can tell you is when I am running as I always do I see the scenery jumping a little then program goes black and
gives the error DH 2005 has stopped working.  It has done it on different areas so there seems to be no spot, I thought maybe
my video card but if LH is having same problems it points to the map. but it happens so randomly I can't pin point it.
it is frustrating , but playable you just never know when it might happen.  Sorry to be no help in discovering what might cause it.

Had the same problem, game chrashed twice on last weeks hunt at one of the fields with the tractors going back and forth.
And had the same problems with this weeks map, have never had any game chrashes before.
So I just quitted this weeks hunt, will give it a try next week if I got the time for it.
My pc is decent so that shouldn't be the problem.

When testing Jimbos maps and some of my own recent maps I have noticed drops in frame speeds that occur when in close proximity to either the train logging carriage and also the logging truck. If both are in screen together it is even more noticable.

If you guys having a problem could check to see if these items are involved or not it would be helpful.
Also turn on your Frame speed monitor,  F8 , and look for any areas that are problematic or any models that are causing abnormal frame drops .

Currently I am still running with my onboard graphics (no Card ) and have to look under my desk to read mine,(they are so low) but I did not have any crashes on the maps during testing.

Obviously a problem has arisen but at this stage I need more information and input from you guys to try and find out what is going on.

so far 18 d/l and 2 problems, guess we'll have to wait and see. I been hunting the weekly this week and no problems so far on my pc. although I'm stay in pretty close to the lumber mill while hunting so that's why I asked about any certain areas. most of the heavy graphics are located in that area. Please keep us informed, and sorry for any problems.

Jim I took your suggestion and turned on frame rate and ran the corridor of the lumber mill from south to north
it ran 58 to 60 most of the way , when I neared the mill the train came by and FS dropped to 19 going down and then
blacked the screen and gave error the train was still in view when it crashed.
hope that helps .

I've noticed game crash problems usually come from two different causes.

1. Highly reflective surfaces.  If you have alot of reflective surfaces (mostly from custom models but problems also could arise from a waterstreams/model combo)  in your gamescreen at one time, it may cause your game to crash.  Turning off reflections in video settings will usually resolve this.

2. Dynamic shadows cast from more complex custom models. You can try changing the shadows quality in the video settings to low but the mapmaker may have to change the model from linked mode to quicklink mode to remove the dynamic shadows.  Not good if the problem is a vehicle and needs to be in linked mode to run, but car models don't usually cause this problem.  In more cases it comes from large (I mean physically-not MB wise) custom models like large buildings that cast HUGE shadows.

If you notice your game crashing, it is probably crashing in the same area (or near a road where two custom cars cross paths) and is probably due to a custom model(s) in that area.  My guess would be that if it is due to  two vehicles crossing paths, its a reflection problem and not a dynamic shadow problem.  But that is just a guess.

Also some lower grade video cards handle these reflection/shadow problems well while higher grade video cards do not.  Don't know why, but I had a 256MB Nvidia that would run a map that a 512MB Nvidia and a 1 Gig ATI Radeon would not.  Go figure.

Lucky,
if it happened when the train crosses near the lumber mill, it may be due to shadows.  If the lumber mill and the train both cast dynamic shadows it may be too much for the video card to handle in one place.

Kent and Jim I am running ATI Radeon HD 4350 with Dedicated Memory: 503 MB, I ran a test standing on the bridge between the mill and shacks if I look to the west FS reads 68 fps  If I turn to the East toward the mill FS reads 47 , I will do the shadows and the reflection and run on high instead of ultra I think your advice is excellent.

had problem making the map, you'll notice that my log trucks run on a road on the other side of the logging camp away from the train. when I ran them on the road next to the train tracks the map would crash, but when I added the 2nd road and moved the trucks it seemed ( so I thought ) to have solved the problem. I've actually stood on the tracks in front of the mill while hunting and had the train pass right through me and not crash.

Ok Jim another test I done on the logging road ,I turned the shadows and reflections to low so  I was running 61 f/s most of the map the train passed near me and it dropped to 21 f/s but did not crash , I then moved to the logging road,  I stood until a logging truck passed me near the road,  it suddenly dropped to 45 f/s and crashed it just might be the logging trucks,  sorry I really liked them but they cause mine to crash .  Hope that helps you out in future maps. As for this one I will just hunt away from the trucks..... Laughing  Laughing

I will try hunting by the trucks again but don't seem to remember having problem after moving them. one difference is I have nvidia on board graphics with the control panel set to performance and not on let application decide.
