I'm working on my second map of an area we hunted this past year and I've run into a hitch.

I understand that vehicles only drive in a straight line, however I still wanted to add the roads the way they are "in real life" so to speak and just not have any traffic in certain areas. Is it possible to make a curved asphalt road without creating custom textures? I have 2 90 degree gradual curves that are asphalt and of course the textures line up all goofy-like when trying to create them. Thanks in advance for any input!

If worse comes to worse, I'll just have to make them gravel I guess... Confused

The Texture lines on the map Editor run at right angles and 45 Degrees
the road textures go North/south or east/west.

Any Blacktop with painted lines can only be used the way the lines run, unless you have a custom texture then you can copy it,  flip it through 90 degrees and rename it . Load it as another texture.( dont forget you can only use 8 textures per map )
To make a left hand curve through Three squares (a pretty tight corner) would require 4 texture slots and 4 custom textures, and a right hand curve ...4 more.
The ony other way would be to make a pic file and load it as a custom object and lay it flat on the map. Trying  to size it and position it would drive you nuts.

So unfortunately patterned textures with vertical or horozontal lines can not be bent but there is a couple of plain blacktops in the editor  that can be used both ways and through 45 as well.
You can use the same texture for both the detail and macro layer or mix up textures any way you like.
You do not have to use for example, Road detail with Road Macro.

I had the same problems when building "Morgan County Lease" ( DH 2005 standard Whitetai Maps ) from the Google Earth map and had to compromise the road line a little using plain blacktop, short 45 degree bends and no vehicles on the roads.

Thanks Dan, you're always the man with the answers!  Very Happy

I'll have to just manually change it up or make it gravel, which will save me a texture layer in the long run I guess.

You actually started me thinking about this.
If I stop thinking in terms of textures I see that it would be possible to make a custom road or rail track as a custom object similar to this railroad model and make bend at 15 degrees. which would go left or right depending on which way round you loaded it.

Then.... as with the rail model ...we would actually save a texture.
If the road texture file was changeable in the Tex folder we could use it as blacktop or gravel.
Power and fence lines could be included as part of the model if the left and right bends were made separately..
Then we would have the answer in part at least but still limited to a flat road bed. Getting the line to go up a hill could be a mission. ( Maybe )
Still one insurmountable problem.. cant run vehicles on it.
I must have a talk to Jimbo about it.
