Dan is on the north Island near Auckland , Christ Church is on the South Island

As of last night (9:00PM) in team speak, he was OK. Because there is now world wide attention on that area of Christ Church, telephone & internet connections may be hard to get because of the flood of media. Dan is OK, I am almost sure of it. He's probably upset that he can't be talking to us right now Smile

The quake damage was highly localised to the area around Lyttleton harbour and Christchurch City.

It was smaller on the Richter scale than last years quake but centerd closer to the city and only 5 km deep.
Where as the first quake occurred early in the morning this one happened at 1.00 in the afternoon when every one was at work in the city centre.

Many people are still being extracted from the collapsed buildings and at last count more than three hundred are still unacounted for.

This is probably going to be the biggest natural disaster  ever to occur in New Zealand.

As you can see from the map, Auckland is well away from Christchurch.
