yea. it'd be nice if win7 would run 16 bit programs (CDilla authorization is 16 bit).  Like Gas56 said, you can run it on win 7 but you need the PRO version to get virtual drive otherwise you have no choice but to run it on XP.  I imagine you could find a cheap XP PC at a computer repair shop though.

just wondering if anyone found the 8th (secret) animal in the map?  It wasn't mentioned in the notes but it is there (only one instance of it though)

agree with Dr. Whitetail.  Kinda sounds like Administrative privileges .  Are you running Windows 7 OS?  If you're not logged in as administrator (even if your account has administrative privileges) , your content i.e. your custom map folder may not show under your account name (its like a hidden folder but can only be seen by the PC's administrator).  Had some probs running programs cuz of this.  You can fix this two ways, log in as administrator or look in your Atari folders and anything that has a lock next to the folder , change the access to it (i.e. administrative privileges) by right clicking on the folder ( this should bring up options tabs-click Properties then Security) so you can view, edit, etc under your account.  Give yourself full access to everything for your account name.

yea, heard about Obama going through the UN to get gun control laws enacted in the US cuz Congress will (should) never pass it.  It is scary Rez, Obama is suposed to be the president of the United States not the Globe.  Just as a personal observation on gun control.  Gun control laws only affect law-abiding citizens.  Criminals aren't affected by gun control laws because they don't obey the law, that is why they are called criminals!!! Effectively, gun control removes guns from law-abiding citizens but does little to hamper criminals from getting their hands on weapons. It is already illegal for felons to own firearms in this country. I've never understood the mistaken belief that if gun-control laws are enacted we stop gun-related crimes.  I've found that a 30 .06 is better deterrent to criminals entering your home than any law or any police force.

When using gimp there are two things you may have to do to get the greyscale image to work after its in 640 x 640 .png format.


1. click on the  Layer header, go down to Transparancy and click REMOVE ALPHA CHANNEL

2. click on the Image header and than go down to Mode and click Greyscale

I've used Gimp before and sometimes they add an alpha channel automatically to an image, this has to be removed for it to work in Dh05.

Sorry didn't see your response Dr. WT, Flattening the image should remove the alpha channel layer and is much simpler to do.  Seems like I had tried that before and it didn't work but I am obviously wrong.  If you have troubles w/ bitmaps in the future and flattening the image doesn't work, look to see if the image has an alpha layer and remove it.

yea, I had similar probs w/ the stupid administrative priviliges in windows 7.  Took awhile to figure out what was going on and how to get around them.

there is a ton of free seamless ground textures you can find online by googling for them.  Just put the ground texture image in your custom map folder and make sure to resize the texture to 512 x 512 or 256 x 256  before using in your map (most of the textures I've dl'd from the net are wallpaper size - 1280 x 720, etc. - and they have to be square to work in the game).  Then when loading textures in the editor click on the ... and change the default file type *.stx to *.jpg and all the .jpg's in your custom map folder should show up.  

I've also created some of my own textures  for maps by taking a picture of the ground and messing around with the image in an image editor (i.e. Paint,etc) to make it seamless.

going for different combos w/ the editor can also produce interesting results and more variety.  i.e. not always using the main file, for ex. drygrass.stx, w/ the corresponding mac file- drygrass_mac.stx.

most of this you probably already knew but hopefully I said something that is of some use.

thanks Dan for posting these so quickly.  Great description and visuals.  Hopefully will be of some use to mapmakers.  You Can also change to bottom rock texture to match your terrain.  I assume that for most mapmakers they will want both rock textures to be the same but the reason I included two different rock textures on the models was to give mapmakers a little more flexability.  Great explaination on how to use these tunnels.  Thanks.

p.s .  train only runs every 30 game minutes, so if you have your day progression on a 1:1 basis with realtime or something similar, you're unlikely to see it.  I always play maps at 1 real minute for every 20 gametime minutes.  I should start taking into consideration people who like to use a longer timeframe.

LOL.  Jimbo's right, I Had to make a fast moving remote controlled bird with infrared camera.  Hoping that noone would notice.  Yeah, I've been using it to spot for Ron (don't let his statement fool you, we've patched things up since our little disagreement in the legends tourney).  BTW nice camera work Lucky , don't know how you were able to capture that bird in frame.

yea, the train tracks confuse me. when testing the map sometimes I was able to escape by going left or right but other times couldn't.  Its best to take momma's advice and "stay off the tracks"   Laughing
