@Karnage

make sure to install bh2003 disc & 1.22patch here c:/program files/infogrames
The Expansion Packs were programed for auto directory there just inside the infogrames folder, alongside the birdhunter 2003 folder.
that's where they will work right.
They never worked for me either if I tried a different directory.
Look at the entry above I made in this post.

Install bird hunter,  install bird hunter patch.   install manetta EXPANSION files in order of downloads from site.   Make sure to install these files alongside where you installed bird hunter 2003 just inside of infogrames file, not past or it will not work as it will not read the directories correctly.     There is a note inside of most of the files of manetta that tell you this, and read the notes inside of all files to install them correctly also, If it is not an expansion file you have to copy & paste over the old files inside of bird hunter 2003 .  Because a lot of the files were updated again.            Good luck this time.

Local disk (C) > Program Files > Infogrames > BH2003 Expansion Pack v1.0
                                                                    Bird Hunter 2003
                                                                    Expansion Pack v1.1
                                                                    Expansion Pack v1.3
                                                                    Missed Files

Like "DantheManBoone" wrote..........Manetta is the resource....You have to follow all download instructions and put in place all maps custom maps in order for correct running of the game.      Most custom maps that were made have more than enough birds to get them.  Read the dog files to use the correct dog for hunting.   You can even edit your own birds once you understand how it is done....        I Played the game a few years ago and made a map to hunt all the bird types, and even updated the game to my liking.  The editor is not one of the simplest to use and does not like Windows XP & later Windows operating systems.  So unless your willing to learn I recommend that you get all the uploads for which it updates the maps from Manetta and you will have more success hunting and finding birds then just the "stock Bird Hunter Maps" which can be tedious until you learn how to play the game correctly.   I even put deer into the map I made but they work like the other small game that come with BH2003, from DH2003. Don't ask me how because I have forgotten what and how I did it and would have to review the files myself to explain it which at this time I am not inclined to do.  So good luck bird Hunting. 1 of the best games ever made.

This is quite a fine hunting game with lots of Animals & Reserves to hunt them on.
From the beginning of the game there has been an ongoing process of development trying to keep in touch with the players whims. There are plenty of weapons and equipment to satisfy almost any hunter.
There is single-player, multi-player online game playing that even have competition hunts.
The graphics of the game are pretty good and recommended use of at least a middle to high performance computer is needed.
Though some of the A.I. (artificial intelligence) of the animals could be more investigated, most are close to their responses.
There is a free version to play the game and limited resources to use, this is like a demo, to let you get the feel of the game. However, if you become a member you have the option of buying all resources or earning some through missions. I only started playing the game again this spring, and have put more money into it than any other game I have ever played. I would like to see theHunter prices come down substantially so it would be more affordable for everybody to play. The price of some guns are $5.oo - $10.oo U.S. currency. as with other weapons and equipment.
There are different membership costs for the amount of time bought. Once you buy the guns & equipment they are yours. So when your renewal membership comes up you will only have to pay for licenses & Time.
The missions can be reset for an additional fee. I'm just wondering now how I can come up with the renewal fee this August when my membership runs out? I am mostly outdoors in the summer and more active on the computer when the snow flies so I may just renew for the late fall to spring months.
But I am hooked on the game for now still looking for the big trophies, even if it is not the most correct gameplay in a hunting game it is the only hunting game for the computer worth playing at this time. I give it a thumbs up ;)

BTW.....    Deer Hunter 2005,   is 1 of my Older favorite games ever made with a map editor  Smile

Try getting closer.......and shoot at the neck spine...they usually drop if you hit it....but if you're that close go for a heart lung shot....they don't go that far and your chances of hitting that area is a whole lot better. Oh and just being curious are they still shots or moving shots you're taking?

To Ron,       Your last response in unfounded!  everything you mentioned can be earned in the game as your skills go up,  and you play the missions.    Maybe your just not up to this kind of competition with yourself being the skills you earn the game gives stuff  for free.  You don't have to buy nothing more unless you want everything right now. And I'm no salesman, just realistically stepping out of the past.  Smile

To Ron4560,       Ron, there are no updates or patches that you pay for.  They have special events if you want to play them... like valentines day hunting but you don't have to play them.  The Retail disc is good for 6 months and sets you up with all the basic hunting equipment, and all hunting licenses.  It's a $100.oo value for $19.99 period. What does that mean?  That you can hunt single player or multi-player games.  And with the Animal A.I. they are more accurately updated to real life hunting for 2014.  Just saying that I was tracking a whitetail buck and I got so close to him I didn't see him bedded 10 feet from me in the weeds until he sprung up and ran away.   Now I can't say how many times that really happened in real life hunting to me, that's a step to the future for hunting games and a positive attribute for the game.  I never thought I would say this but for now there is no hunting game out there even close to "theHunter".  Until you try the game you won't know what the future of gameplay has to offer.                                                       Hopefully come along for the ride...........              Garry

Here are some of my photos from "theHunter"...... I've been having a blast or should I say shoot!   I picked up the disc version of 2013 at walmart  $19.00 retail and it gives you a $100.00 value of everything you need to hunt to your hearts content....   besides a tent,(spawn at tent) and some fancy duds which is all extra .... its good for a 6 month period.   Which is around $40.00 annually. There is single player mode, which you can activate missions to get GM $ which is used mostly for other Ammo, and Consumables that will let you travel to a campsite.  After your skills go up Which are Em $ (stands for earn em) other hunting articles you acquire by hunting.  Or if you want to blow a whole lot of money you can buy them outright.  There are Multi-player games...and are quite a few.  There are some bugs in the server,  especially updates....which can mess up your game launcher.....but they are working on moving to a different server at the moment.   They have had so many updates since the last time I played this game and I can say it's all for the best.    Now if they could just put all those updates in 1 download file and make it 1 patch it would surely enhance the download process. The best thing I can say for theHunter is it's graphics...  the scenery is more up to date and looks damn good. The Zombie looking  Roe deer does need some work, but hey everything can't be perfect.
