I saw that was an option, but was thinking more a long of the lines of re-texturing the characters, making the guns look like they have metal parts, and making the creatures look better. But, that stuff is all locked away in the .spk file. I understand editing things would break the tournament rules here, but was more thinking about just for personal use.

I'm sure things are locked away, but it would be nice to be able to re-texture the deer and animals with better fur for example, or re-texture the rifles so they look like rifles when pulling them. I'll get the editor going again here soon, I'll have a little more time when hockey season is over.  Embarassed

Good info. I've recently went back to playing a heavily modded Skyrim game and it got me thinking about this game. With Skyrim, the community has basically redone the entire game in modern graphics, meshes, and models. They've incorporated parallax with some of the ground and rock textures which makes things really look better in game. Of course, with Skyrim, the developers released the creation kit which has allowed people to change just about everything in the game.

I ran around and shot a few bucks yesterday and thought...man I wish this game was up to 2015 or even 2010 standards.  Very Happy

It's definitely out of my league to do it, but thought I would ask about it as you guys have spent a lot more time messing around with the map editor and the game itself.

Nevermind, figured out that I needed the .iso or the CD in the drive for the hunt button to show up. Now to get the map editor up and running again...

Wish there was a way to re-do all the textures and upgrade the meshes of this game and still have it run decent. I love the simplicity of the game and the free roaming. "The Hunter" seemed way over the top and just didn't have the feel this old game does. I'm assuming the Aspen engine wouldn't be able to handle higher res meshes and textures though. Just thinking out loud and replying to my own posts....  Laughing

Hmm....thought maybe one of you DH05 veterans would have seen this bug and have an easy fix? Nobody has had the hunt button missing?

Sad

So I found my cd copy of DH05. I've installed, updated, and added the patch. I load up the game and everything is there except the "Hunt" button in the bottom right corner. Any ideas? Thanks! Mad

I wiped my drive and did a clean install of Win10. My win7 was corrupted and was giving me a lot of headaches. I backed up my profile and my custom maps and maps I was working on as well as the editor and I still had the installer from when I bought the game initially.

I'm still using my custom PC that I built a few years ago which has a dvd rom drive but I'm using the downloaded installer version. I may have to boot into my XP drive and just copy the game to a drive and then bring it over. Not sure what else to do. Mad

I reinstalled DH05 on my new install of Win10 and patched it using the 1.2 patch from here. I've set it to run in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and also to run as administrator. When I click on the application to launch it, I get the spinning blue circle and then nothing. The game isn't launching at all.

I can't remember if there's something special I need to do or.... Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks! Very Happy

Thanks for the welcome back Dan! I checked out your post and I'm glad you were able to get to the bottom of it. I don't have any apple software installed on my windows side of things. I run a hackintosh so I have separate drives for both MacOS and Windows and just boot into the one I want to use. I keep all of my apple stuff on the Mac side.

I did put DH on an XP drive back in the day before I took a leave. The problem I ran into was I couldn't boot into it from my bootloader and if I wanted to use the drive I had to manually open my case and unplug all the other drives and just leave that one plugged in. Needless to say all my stuff has just sat there. I'm in the process of wiping my windows drive and clean installing Windows 10. Has anyone had any luck running the game from Windows 10?

I'm saving all my stuff that I have in case I get the bug again...may even have to take part in the hunt again once I get things straightened out. I miss messing around in the editor!  Razz

Hi guys! Glad to see this site is still up and running and people are still hunting! Just came across this thread and thought I'd let you know that there's an app that is a lot better than teamspeak and I believe free to set up. If you haven't heard of Discord, google it and check it out.

Hope everyone is doing well!  Very Happy

Take a look at Danthemanboon's "A B/C Trilogy" set of maps in the files. There are 3 of them starting at a lower elevation in the first one and moving up into III. They are very well done and I think they will satisfy your request!  Very Happy

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll just try to finish my couple maps on my XP HDD and then just send my maps over to my other HDD to test. This little problem has become a huge nightmare and I've spent so much time and $ on it that I'm pretty certain I'm going to call it quits when I finish these 2 maps that are half done. Thanks for the help though, it's sincerely appreciated! Smile

Have you tried looking in your registry to see if it might have copied it there

Hmm, I have not because I don't know much about regedit or how to use it. I don't know what to look for or what to do with it if I find it.  Wink

I purchased DH2005 a couple of years ago from here:
http://www.download-free-games.com/simulation/deer_hunter_2005.htm

I originally downloaded it just to try it, found I liked it, and then purchased it. The download is the full game but the trial is for 30 days. Basically, when you start the game up, a window pops up telling you it's a trial, it has a button to purchase. Once you purchase it, it unlocks the trial and that window no longer pops up. I still have the original installer, so what I did was just burned all of my mapping stuff and the installer onto a DVD to transfer to this new drive.

Once I installed it and tried to run it, the trial thing popped up (because I'm on a new hdd). When I try to click any of the options (either buy or the one that says I already purchased), it gives me an error stating I need to be connected to the internet. When I found my receipt in my email and tried clicking on the links they provided, they all are now being forwarded to a different website. About a year ago, I was able to activate the game on my laptop and it said I had 4 remaining activations left.

I emailed the company, because I see that DFG is still around, and here was the response I got:

"Unfortunately a number of things have happened since you purchased the game:

1) Atari, who owns the rights to the game, pulled it out of digital distribution
2) Trymedia, who handled the digital download and order processing for that game, was shut down by the company that bought them (Real Networks)

Real Networks does not provide us with any customer support any longer for anyone who bought games through our partnership with them so unfortunately I can't do anything to help you get that game back Sad  I know that really stinks and I wish there was something I could do.  Its not very fun when businesses make changes (or just stop doing business) and don't support their past customers."

So...because I can no longer buy the game (which I don't want to do…again), I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a game key file or anything that I could transfer over from my working game to unlock the trial.

Maybe this is a sign for me to finally hang this game up…I've spent countless hours trying to get the editor to work in Win7, and then more hours trying to get my new XP drive to boot (running a machine with several different operating systems), and then when I finally was able to slipstream drivers into my XP install disc and get the operating system running, I can't even use the game I purchased! Crying or Very sad
