Take a look at Danthemanboon's "A B/C Trilogy" set of maps in the files. There are 3 of them starting at a lower elevation in the first one and moving up into III. They are very well done and I think they will satisfy your request!  Very Happy

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll just try to finish my couple maps on my XP HDD and then just send my maps over to my other HDD to test. This little problem has become a huge nightmare and I've spent so much time and $ on it that I'm pretty certain I'm going to call it quits when I finish these 2 maps that are half done. Thanks for the help though, it's sincerely appreciated! Smile

Hmm, I have not because I don't know much about regedit or how to use it. I don't know what to look for or what to do with it if I find it.  Wink

I purchased DH2005 a couple of years ago from here:
http://www.download-free-games.com/simulation/deer_hunter_2005.htm

I originally downloaded it just to try it, found I liked it, and then purchased it. The download is the full game but the trial is for 30 days. Basically, when you start the game up, a window pops up telling you it's a trial, it has a button to purchase. Once you purchase it, it unlocks the trial and that window no longer pops up. I still have the original installer, so what I did was just burned all of my mapping stuff and the installer onto a DVD to transfer to this new drive.

Once I installed it and tried to run it, the trial thing popped up (because I'm on a new hdd). When I try to click any of the options (either buy or the one that says I already purchased), it gives me an error stating I need to be connected to the internet. When I found my receipt in my email and tried clicking on the links they provided, they all are now being forwarded to a different website. About a year ago, I was able to activate the game on my laptop and it said I had 4 remaining activations left.

I emailed the company, because I see that DFG is still around, and here was the response I got:

"Unfortunately a number of things have happened since you purchased the game:

1) Atari, who owns the rights to the game, pulled it out of digital distribution
2) Trymedia, who handled the digital download and order processing for that game, was shut down by the company that bought them (Real Networks)

Real Networks does not provide us with any customer support any longer for anyone who bought games through our partnership with them so unfortunately I can't do anything to help you get that game back Sad  I know that really stinks and I wish there was something I could do.  Its not very fun when businesses make changes (or just stop doing business) and don't support their past customers."

So...because I can no longer buy the game (which I don't want to do…again), I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a game key file or anything that I could transfer over from my working game to unlock the trial.

Maybe this is a sign for me to finally hang this game up…I've spent countless hours trying to get the editor to work in Win7, and then more hours trying to get my new XP drive to boot (running a machine with several different operating systems), and then when I finally was able to slipstream drivers into my XP install disc and get the operating system running, I can't even use the game I purchased! So I purchased a new HDD to put windows XP on just for mapping because I was about to throw my windows7 machine out the window.

I've run into a problem, I have a downloaded version of DH2005 that I purchased a while back and the company I purchased it from no longer exists... so...I install the game, it says it's a trial and I have 30 days left, but when I click on "Already Paid. Click Here" link, it's broken and the site has changed ownership. Any suggestions on how to retrieve my key from my installed game on my other computer? Thanks! Mad

Thank you Gas56, I appreciate you trying to help out!

I did order a refurbished drive and will put a copy of XP on it to see how that goes...I'm really sick of fighting with Win7...I guess it just reinforces why I run MacOS on my primary drive and all my work computers.  Shocked

Pretty funny when you think of it...dropping $30 bucks on a drive to play a game I paid $9.99 for that is older than dirt! Laughing

I'm at a loss..  Sad

I've completely reinstalled the game, the patches, and the editor and I'm still having this problem. Almost every model in the game is giving me the same error where there are extra weird characters on the end of file extension.

I spent 2hrs this morning trying everything I can think of. I've run a registry cleaner, I've run a disk check, I've scanned for malware and viruses, I've check and rechecked the permissions on every single folder and item in the Atari Folder, I've defragged several times, I've unchecked the clear type font, and nothing.

I think I may have to just purchase a small hd, install xp on it, and finish my maps on that hd. Unless someone has any more suggestions? Crying or Very sad

I'm using Win7 Ultimate which is basically Pro with a few additions. I've tried using the xp compatibility mode as mentioned in a previous post but it didn't seem to do any good. Thanks for the suggestions though LogJumper.

I'll post more if I figure anything out and as I get a chance to work on it. My computer time is severely limited at the moment.  Very Happy

Thanks for the reply Gas, when I get a spare minute, I'll try reinstalling things again and start over. I have a downloaded version which I think I still may have the install exe in my downloads folder.

Its just so frustrating when things work fine for awhile, nothing gets changed on my computer as far as I know, and then this problem keeps popping up. Everything is cleaned and I'm the only user so I know what goes on and off of it. I'll post again after I've had some time to work on it, thanks!

Not to bring back an old subject, but now I remember why quit mapping and left like 3 half finished maps just sitting on my pc.

I'm having this same problem again, when trying to add a custom object in the editor, it won't let me load the model because windows tacks on a bunch of rubbish to the back of the file name. I've went through everything I can think of again, changing preferences, unchecking the font thing, and nothing works. The editor makes me want to pull my hair out! Evil or Very Mad

I wish we could find a real fix for this. Is there a preferred or best method for copying custom objects and moving them from folder to folder? I'm wondering if that is part of my problem.

Actually, I just found out it's happening with trying to add any models at all, whether stock or custom...so I can't add models. Sad

Thanks for the responses. I'm running Win7 Ultimate and was able to get XP Mode up and running. I haven't installed it yet, but was planning on doing that this week when I get some free time. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

I would love to make some custom models as well. However, I believe the only way that I've found is to use 3DS Max 5 and use a plugin called JBCTools to export your model as a .j3d model.

There are a few problems with this:
1. 3DS Max 5 is expensive
2. 3DS Max 5 does not run on Win7 or Win8 (not sure about Vista)

I've tried searching several times for a workaround for say Blender or some other 3D modeling software, but I can't seem to find any info anywhere about .j3d models and how to export to that format. If anyone knows more about this, I would love to hear some info too!  Very Happy

Not sure if you got this figured this out yet or not, but one of the most helpful things I've found is utilizing the SHIFT key to slowly rotate around objects to line them up. Hold SHIFT to slow the camera movement while flying around or CTRL to fly fast.

What also helps is making sure all your fences run either East/West or North/South. If they are, what you can do is use the P/Y/R coordinates in the "Selected Object Instances" to get them running as straight as possible. So, for example, you should see either 90/180/270/360 in one of the P/Y/R coordinates. You should be able to tell which one is correct by rotating your object and watching what happens to those values.

It's pretty easy to line them up if your on flat ground, I've run into a similar problem right now that I'm struggling with. I've re-created a hunting area and the topography varies, so the elevation is a lot higher on one end of the map than the other. I need to put powerlines across the map and I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to either dig a big ditch along the county road or a hill so that the powerlines run on even ground. Maybe Danthemanboone or someone else has some pointers with this? Rolling Eyes
