Thanks Dan.  No, I did not load both the detail and macron on the dummy layer, so this would account for the issue with the grid in the game.

Thenks for letting me also know that I did not need to create the .SPK to check the progress of the map in the game.  This is anothe point that will really help me out.

Thanks again for all the pointers; you are saving me alot of time!

Thanks Lucky.  I tried that, and you are right!  The sound is almost perfect!  I just have an issue with the grid; must be a way to remove it before you create the .spk file.  It showed up in my ground layer in the game.

By the way; as you add more to the design, do you need to delete the old .spk before you create the new?  Or does it update the old .spk when you hit the button in the editor to generate it for the game?

Thanks for the info!

PostForum: Introduce yourself   Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2012 1:20 pm   Subject: Hi to all my fellow hunters!
I originally introduced myself in the Map Making forums; still leaning the organization of the forums and guess I should have done that here.

Really enjoy playing the game and now I am going one step further by downloading the Editor and creating a map of the area I grew up hunting.  Challenging? YES! but since I no longer have access to this particular location due to "development" creating it virtually seems like a great way to revisit old memories.

Happy Holidays to all!

Hi all;

I am working on a map that represents the area I learned to hunt on (Thanks again Dan and Lucky for helping me find out what I needed to know to set the Topography!)

I noticed that the editor does not seem to have a custom texture/sound for leaf covered ground.  Has anyone come up with this?  Is the complexity of the image too much for the game engine (although I doubt this is an issue)?

If not, I think I am going to play around with this and see if I can come up with something.  The area I am trying to create has a number of hard-wood ridges (mostly red/chestnut oaks) and I think this would be great to have in the map.  Also, has anyone come up with a custom object for an oak?

Thanks for the help, and have a great Hoilday Season everyone!

Thanks guys.....this worked like a charm!  I just created a screen shot from a topo map of th eland I learned to hunt deer on, cropped it to size, savedit as a .PNG, painted it, saved it in greyscale, and popped it right into the editor without an issue.  I created a level profile and ran it in the game, and it felt like I was wlaking it in real life.

Now the textures are what's next.  Thanks again for all your help!

Hi Dan

Sorry to bother you again, but I have run through the tutorial and searched the forums, and I still cannot figure out how to load my .PNG file into the editor to create the terrain.  Can you help me with that step?

In step 2 you stated: "navigate to it with the surface editor tool"

I am not sure how to do this.

Thanks for any help you can spare!

LOL!  Love that bit on the old bitty!

Thank you very much, Dan.  This is the best description of the process I have seen here.  I appreciate the guidance.  IUf I can come up with something half-way decent, I will submot it since I have so many of your maps it seems only fair.

Tahnks again!

Hi all.  I have a question about developing a map, and it relates to setting the topography.  It would appear that it is affected by World Height and Fractal settings, but doe texture also come into play?

I t is my understanding that it would be best to set the topography I want first, then apply the textures to the topo by "painting?" them on.  Am I correct in this assumption?

Thanks for the help!

Hi all!  Just wanted to introduce myself as a new member (although I appear to have joined in 2009 and forgot about it).  Sorry you had to carry my weight that long.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank all you map makers for the fun I have had downloading and playing your maps.  99% of those I have downloaded for DH2004 and DH2005 have been whitetail maps, but I have a few for mulies/blacktail kicking around and they have all been great!

Again, Thank you!  Hopefully I can learn enough about the editor to return the favor!  HAve a Merry Christmas and HAppy New Year!
