A few years ago I got into map making.  If anyone who as ever made a map they know it is addicting.  I was a member at another site and I kept seeing posts from one of the other members that they were having trouble getting a world record roe.  I figured I would use my new found map making talent to create an easy map for this person to get their deer. Thus began the slaughter maps(at least my version of them).  This soon began a debate, that still rages today.  Some are for and some are against.  I never really responded to the posts except for a few time where I said that IT IS JUST A GAME.  The game was meant for everyone's enjoyment.  Everyone has their preference of maps and they shouldn't be judged by other for that.  After all IT IS JUST A GAME.

This is the stance I took on the subject until the other day.  I was sitting around doing some site work and starting thinking.  Until DH 2005 came around I never played a game online(except for madden and I don't even want to talk about the sore losers there).  DH2005 was the first time that I was able to interact with people from all around the world.  Who would have thought that people in Germany would have the same interests as me?  Then I made a map making tutorial and found myself helping others with map making.  Something I never would have done if it was not for DH 2005.  If it wasn't for DH 2005, this site would never have been created.  If it wasn't for DH2005, most of the members here probably would have never got a chance to meet each other.  I could go on with the what if's there was  no DH2005 and I am sure others have gained something from playing this game.

Now when I  post a response to the great slaughter map debate I will have to use something else because it is obvious that IT IS MORE THAN JUST A GAME.

I have to agree, it "is more than just a game" This site has created a lot of friends, that would not have been. From all walks of life, and opens eyes, even when I get bored with DH2005, I still seem to play again.
Also agree that some want to at least see that their are big deer and rares, so thanks for taking the grief for the slaughter map series. I did not have to take any grief over the cheat map series lol.

I would have to agree because of these games I have met all of you. These games show that all people can come together and have fun. Fun and friendship a great combo.

Map making is not only fun but relaxing as well. Once you get good enough to make a map of where you actualy have hunted, in real life, you will never quit making them. I use topo sites to get my game maps from and do the elevations all from scratch for a more realistic effect. Brother Bob's Hunting Grounds and Brownington Pond are two of the places I have hunted in real life and when I hunt them I get to go back home again. You are so right, this is more than just a game.

I would like to say this, any one who has ever created a map, I have great respect for (weather its a slaughter or other it does not matter). I can not say map making is relaxing to me! I get very frustrated doing it. I made 1 with the help of another person, then read your tutorial and tried to make my very own. Its still not finished! LOL! I guess if I could master map making, as well as bow hunting, I would probably feel really good about myself. But as for now, its more then just a game to me, it is the GAME!!!! Great job to all, and all a great Job! Ray.
